Search Engine Results Pages!

The Search Engine Results Pages, display lists of web pages in response to a users keyword search.

All search engines utilize a results page. When a user goes to a specific search engine and enters a keyword or phrase in to the search bar, they are presented with a list of the most relevant web sites that match the search query. Most major search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN Bing, display 10 websites per results page.

Search Engine Results Pages (known as SERP's)

The search engine results pages, display web pages in order of rank, with the highest ranked site being displayed at the top of the results page.

The site at the top of the search engine results page is generally seen as being the most relevant and related to the search query that the user typed in. Sites further down the results pages would gradually become less and less targeted to the specific term searched for.

It is worth noting that the search engine results pages on most search engines are separated in to two distinct parts. The natural search results appear on the left of the page. These are the organic results, and what all SEO optimization is concerned with. On the right hand side of the page you will find sponsored results. These are adverts that marketers pay to have displayed on the results pages for certain keyword searches. These are often not as relevant or targeted to the search term as the natural results, and SEO is not concerned with these sponsored links at all.

Search engine results pages, offer a quick and easy way to display a list of information that is likely to assist a person searching the internet for information on a particular topic.
