SEO is the process of improving a website to increase exposure and visibility in search engines. Generally, the primary aim of SEO is to attract either higher volumes or higher quality traffic to a site via the natural or organic search results.
Generally, the higher up the results page a website appears, the more traffic it is likely to receive. And so SEO concentrates on improving or optimizing a website or page, in order to help it appear higher up the search engine results. There are a number of processes involved in search engine optimization, but they primarily fall in to one of two categories: On page SEO, and Off page SEO!
On Page SEO!
The term "On page SEO" refers to the process of editing the HTML code of a web site, as well as other on page factors, such as:
All these on page SEO factors, play a very important role in telling the search engines about the site, and help them to categorize the pages and rank them accordingly.
Off Page SEO!
The term "Off page SEO" refers to process of optimizing a website using resources which are not part of your actual website. Off page SEO factors are independent of your website, and are typically optimized after your site has gone live and indexed by search engines.
Off page SEO is generally a slightly slower search engine optimization task, but is also widely considered to be the most important.
It mainly involves building back links to your site (links from other websites that point to yours).
SEO - Search Engine Optimization (in layman's terms)
The basic idea behind SEO, is to make your site look good in the eyes of search engines, so that they reward you by displaying your page higher up the results pages. The ultimate goal of any SEO optimization is to gain a #1 ranking position in the search results for a specific keyword.
